Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in Sutton and in the role of Strategic Director People’s Services.

I hope that you are excited by the challenge of taking our Social care services to the next level. Our services are well regarded and we pride ourselves on great partnership working, including of course, with our NHS colleagues in the newly created South West London Integrated Care System. We are aware that there is more change to come, and more work to do to take full advantage of the possibilities of integration. In Sutton it really matters to us that we bring all of our partners with us on the journey including our voluntary sector partners.

We are looking for a leader who will ensure that our Adult Social Care services are not only fit for the new CQC inspection regime, but delivered with passion and humanity. As the head of a department comprising Children’s as well as Adults services, you will have the experience to support the DCS and their team, and the wisdom to know where to bring services closer together and where to allow them to develop independently.

You will thrive here if you are an enthusiast for collaboration and partnership. We want to involve our community in the decisions that we make, as well as working with partners. You will also be a key player in our Corporate Management Team, which really is one team, taking forward the Council’s Ambitious for Sutton Agenda.

Our population is growing and changing, with greater diversity and new demands for service and support. This is hardly surprising as Sutton has always been known as a great place to live, with well renowned schools, high quality green places and a low crime rate.

Now, as we develop the world class London Cancer Hub and pursue proposals to transform our High Street and the public services that we deliver on it, our ambitious approach to service is reflected in an ambitious regeneration programme.

The new Strategic Director will be keen to take advantage of all of these opportunities and whilst focusing on building and strengthening People Services will be alert to ways in which all of our programmes can add work to achieve our ambitions and add to the quality of life for all of our residents.
